Lighting is one of the most important parts of a home. If you want to create a welcoming home and always have a feeling of well-being in any room, you should light each area of the home using the most suitable system and the right type of light.
From Lasose Properties & Investments we explain how you can plan the points of light in your home to create a good atmosphere.
As we always say, the most fundamental thing is to light each room according to what the space is used for and what activities take place there.
- In the bathroom: apart from the general light, one of the points of light has to be on the mirror. It should be powerful enough so as to avoid throwing harsh shadows on the face.
- In the bedroom: wall lights can be placed at the height of the headboard, but only if it is a soft and relaxing light. Equally, and regardless of whether or not you have a dressing room or wardrobes in the bedroom, it is best to have vertical lighting with halogen spotlights that are built into the ceiling.
- In the kitchen: just as the extractor hoods already incorporate their light in the form of halogen spotlights and allow the cooking area to be properly lit, you need to place spotlights in the work areas, a good option being to place them under the cabinets. It is best if they have independent switches so that they can be switched on only when needed. To illuminate the kitchen in general, you can use low consumption lamps, such as ceiling or fluorescent lights.
- In the living room: if you have special mirrors or pictures consider highlighting them with spotlights, making sure that the light does not fall directly on the piece. For the shelves, versatile and adjustable systems such as spotlight rails that allow you to direct the light to the place you want, is one of the best options. A point of light at the dining table is also essential. For here, opt for hanging lamps that do not dazzle and are adjustable in height.
For corridor areas such as the hall and landing, you can use wall lights that with the right kind of light allow for the area to be illuminated, whilst at the same time making the space appear bigger.
